Asset criticality helps industrial sector weather the storm of springtime maintenance
Here are just a few ways seasonal changes affect operational excellence in the industrial sector in the early months of the year.
Remote outdoor assets are built to last, but that doesn’t stop Mother Nature from battering asset-intensive businesses in the U.S. during winter and spring.
This article includes just a few ways seasonal changes affect operational excellence in the industrial sector in the early months of the year, and what you can do about it through identifying your critical (and at risk) assets.

Critical Asset Safeguard Evaluation (CASE)
GenesisSolutions “Critical Asset Safeguard Evaluation” offering is a finalist for the 2017 Solution Awards in the Work Execution Management category.
CASE provides organizations with the ability to determine if their most critical assets are being managed to an acceptable level of residual risk. The tool aids in the determination of whether existing safeguards adequately address the potential impact of risks to HS&E, regulatory compliance, along with targeted business objectives.
Replay: Risk, Performance, and Cost: Striking a Balance in the Power Industry – New White Paper
Risk Analysis as a Key to Unlocking Hidden Value
To meet service obligations and financial targets, every owner and operator of power generation assets must balance three major variables: risk, performance and cost. In the past, the guiding principle of many generators was “reliability at any cost.” Today’s competitive power markets demand a different approach focused on achieving acceptable reliability and quantifiable risk at a predictable, preferably lower, cost. When generators succeed in optimizing these trade-offs, a large savings in operations and maintenance costs can be achieved without incurring unacceptable risks of equipment failure and downtime.

The Importance of CMMS & EAM Upgrades
Earlier this month, IBM announced end of support for version 7.5 of their Maximo Asset Management application effective April 30, 2018.
This is good reminder of the criticality of staying current with your systems. CMMS and IT may not be everyone’s favorite topics or areas of interest, but without the supporting data each provide, reliability programs will never succeed.
Although IBM’s Asset Management application is referenced here, the lessons and examples are applicable to other leading systems (i.e. Infor EAM and similar).
