Employee Spotlight

Tony Vaclavicek - Manager, Reliability Services (Europe & Middle East)

Tony Vaclavicek started his career in the construction industry with the Steel Workers Union in Brooklyn, New York during the early 1970’s. His career took him to many parts of the US and he settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma where his construction background got him involved with architectural millwork as a cabinet maker. Tony worked through the ranks at several companies before becoming the Plant Superintendent / Production Manager for Millcreek Lumber. Tony’s ability to organize production facilities helped him to design and implement a custom cabinet assembly line for Millcreek producing high end cabinets for the home building industry.

His interest in speeding up the assembly process and eliminating the human factor from processes led him to attend college in the evenings and receive an Associate Degree in Computer Integrated Manufacturing with emphasis in Robotics and Automation.

Tony’s successes in the manufacturing and production space lead to a new position as Production Superintendant and Maintenance Manager at Brunswick’s Zebco division in Tulsa. In this position he managed all warehousing, graphics, assembly, die-casting, injection molding and maintenance for a facility producing trolling motors and fishing reels for the global recreation industry. While at Zebco, Tony completed a BS in Industrial Operations Management from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma.

After Zebco Tony took a Production Engineer position at Whirlpool’s Tulsa Division where he led the implementation of Maximo 3.1 and was promoted to Senior Business Analyst for the global implementation of Maximo 4.1.1 at 14 divisions. Tony assumed management responsibility for all inventory / procurement configuration, an SAP interface, and user acceptance testing and training for over 1,000 maintenance technicians in North America.

In September 2001 Tony came to GenesisSolutions as the training coordinator for the rollout of Maximo 5.1.1 at Abbott in Chicago. Soon thereafter, he led the rollout and SAP interface at the Abbott site in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. In 2006 Tony moved to the Netherlands to manage a small Technical Integrity Enhancement Project for Shell Oil.

Tony has since been promoted to Manager, Reliability Services - Europe & the Middle East and manages European operations for Genesis Technology Solutions - NL, a division of GenesisSolutions. For the last four years he has been heavily involved with Oil & Gas Safety and Integrity Projects for Shell in the North Sea, Maintenance Optimization projects on two North Sea FPSOs owned by BlueWater, along with several smaller projects for companies such as MedImmune, Oce and Wyeth.

Developing & Implementing a Maintenance Master Plan

by Mike Greenholtz, VP, Reliability Solutions

Maintenance staff are constantly addressing the daily Run the Business needs. In today’s environment of shrinking expense budgets, less capital for baseline equipment and facilities upgrades; coupled with staffing reductions or freezes, the Maintenance organization is already hard pressed for delivering results. Yet, every industry sector is currently looking at “Create the Future” scenarios to transform yesterdays work flow processes into leaner, cost effective customer focused processes.

The blueprint that defines your updated Maintenance organization charter, prioritized objectives and implementation schedule is the Maintenance Master Plan.

New Employee Spotlight: Bob Steibly

Senior Reliability Engineer

Bob Steibly is a Certified Senior Consultant by the Americas Consultant Certification Board and a Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) by the Association for Facilities Engineers (AFE). His career in maintenance and plant engineering management and in asset care management consulting spans four decades with Sharon Steel Corp., Anheuser-Busch, Baxter International, GE Medical Systems, American Hospital Supply Corporation, GE Aircraft Engines, Indus International, IBM Global Services, and Omya Inc. His plant engineering and maintenance organization at GE Aircraft Engines earned The Best Maintenance Organization in America Award presented by Maintenance Technology magazine and the Facilities Excellence Award of Merit (FAME) presented by the AFE (Association of Facilities Engineers).

In 1993 Bob formed his asset care management consulting firm, Steibly & Associates, specializing in maintenance productivity and asset reliability improvement with clients in virtually every business sector. In 2006, after 13 years of successful asset care management consulting, Bob re-entered the world of maintenance and engineering management with Omya, Inc. to implement the world class practices he brought to his clients since his achievements with GE, developing Omya’s maintenance operation into a highly productive and asset reliability-focused, world class operation. (Omya, Inc. is the world’s largest producer of the finest, fine ground, calcium carbonate in the world).

It is Bob’s philosophy that the key to a productive and successful maintenance operation is a clear focus on equipment reliability supported by a combination of leadership, cultural change, teamwork, planning and scheduling, up-to-date procedures and practices, and ready access to critical information by all levels of maintenance personnel. Success is built on a solid foundation of the basics of good maintenance before moving to the latest technologies. This approach ensures productivity improvements for maintenance and the operations side of the business translating into improved asset reliability.

Bob joined GenesisSolutions in June 2010 as a Senior Reliability Engineer. In this capacity, Bob has been working with one of GenesisSolutions’ key pharmaceutical clients in the development and deployment of asset reliability programs and tools and maintenance productivity improvement programs to the client’s plants worldwide.

Project Profile: MedImmune

What was MedImmune trying to achieve?

The main objective of our engagement was to provide System Administrator support for the current Maximo 5.2 installation while the Facilities Lead / System Administrator was engaged in SAP effort with AstraZeneca. We were also requested to conduct a Maximo 7.1 Upgrade GAP Analysis and Planning project. The system support was fully spearheaded by GenesisSolutions’ Chad Bring and the upgrade analysis and planning was completed by Walter Betsill.

Why GenesisSolutions was selected (i.e. experience, cost, capabilities)?

GenesisSolutions was involved in Validation and Training during the initial Maximo 5.2 implementation along with an MRO Consulting team. During our upgrade discussion in January 2010, MedImmune was very impressed with our understanding of the requirements and the proposed approach, our understanding of the functionality of Maximo 7.1, and our proposed solution to upgrade Maximo 5.2 to 7.1. In addition, we maintained a close relationship for the past 6 - 7 years which played a large role in keeping updated on our customers operations.

What were the results?

GenesisSolutions was selected as the implementation partner for the upgrade project. We have been tasked to streamline the inventory and equipment records, including walk downs at 5 sites (Gaithersburg, Frederick, Pennsylvania, California, and U.K.). We are underway to accomplishing our task on time and to provide quality data to the SAP development team. We have also begun a pilot asset reliability study within the Utility section at Gaithersburg. There are more initiatives that GenesisSolutions will be involved with after this initial pilot study involving both MedImmune and AstraZeneca sites.

GenesisSolutions’ Chad Bring is doing a fantastic job of managing these initiatives along with his System Administrator role. He is instrumental in the success of this project with our valued customer.

About MedImmune

MedImmune, the worldwide biologics unit for AstraZeneca PLC, has approximately 3,300 employees worldwide and is headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

GenesisSolutions Presents at 2010 Oil & Gas Maintenance Technology North America Conference
