Asset Management Master Planning: The Evolution of Maintenance Master Planning (1st in a Series)
EAM & Reliability Strategy Seminar: February 23rd, 2012, Atlanta, Georgia

A Welcome to 2012

Rob MacArthur, President of GenesisSolutions

Happy New Year. I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season with friends and family.

2011 marked our 12th year for GenesisSolutions. Despite a variety of economic headwinds facing the global economy, we finished a near record year in terms of growth and volume. We thank you, our customers and partners, for making this happen.

Throughout the year we continued to grow in all practice areas and all geographies. It would seem true that Enterprise Asset Management is a fundamental necessity for our industrial customers in both up, down and sideway markets.

Looking forward into 2012 we continue to see strong growth as the fusion of EAM technologies and advanced reliability-based maintenance programs continues to expand. We will of course continue to grow to meet our customers growing needs related to EAM. We have also entered into key strategic relationships with a number of leading industrial service and technology firms which allows us to expand our reach as well as provide more expansive and robust EAM solutions to our customers. More to come on all of these in future newsletters but we anticipate a very exciting 2012 ahead.

As always, thank you for all your support and business throughout 2011. From all of us here at GenesisSolutions we wish a very happy, prosperous and safe 2012 to you and your families.

Best Regards,

Rob MacArthur, President

Asset Management Master Planning

The Evolution of Maintenance Master Planning

Mike Greenholtz & Quinton GoForth

Early last year an article was posted entitled “Maintenance Master Planning” where Mike Greenholtz described the implementation approach and benefits of an Asset Management program. Much of the article described Mike’s global implementation experiences, which began nearly a decade ago at a world class Pharmaceutical company. We have had the opportunity over the past several years to introduce Maintenance Master Planning to many of our GenesisSolutions customers. As part of a continuous improvement effort, we have modified the master planning process to include a DMAIC approach, which is a 6 Sigma quality management tool, thus evolving Maintenance Master Planning to a more comprehensive Asset Management Master Planning process.

In a sequential series of articles to be published in this newsletter, we will describe the updated process in detail to provide you with a greater understanding of how this method can bring value to your company. Over the course of this five part series, we will convey how we “Define” asset management maturity, “Measure” and assess the current state of asset management, “Analyze” the assessment to develop a master plan, “Improve” asset management through master plan implementation, and finally “Control” and sustain the performance improvement.

Employee Spotlight: David Pitman, Principal Consultant
Alliance Announcement: SSI Manufacturing Technologies
2012 EAM Seminar Schedule Preview
Upcoming Events

Employee Spotlight: David Pitman

Principal Consultant

David Pitman is a Principal Consultant who came to GenesisSolutions in 2000 from Datastream Systems. While at Datastream David served as a Senior Implementation Technician who installed MP2 at approximately 100 customer sites in the US, Canada and Mexico.

David has served GenesisSolutions as both a Functional Lead and Project Manager on a number of projects during his tenure in a wide range of verticals, including Energy (Nuclear, Fossil Fuel, and T&D), Pharmaceuticals, Municipalities and Facilities (Casinos). David has a diverse set of system skills including functional and technical for Maximo, Datastream 7i (now Infor EAM), and MP2. Over the past several years, David has expanded his abilities in the IBM Maximo Asset Management realm by rolling out several aggressive upgrades. He has recently completed his PMP Certification course from Clemson University and is currently engaged on a large deployment with Tucson Electric Power. This project’s goals include upgrading current CMMS systems to a standard Maximo 7 platform across generation, transmission and distribution, including increasing data quality and the associated reliability programs it supports. David’s cardinal principle is to provide the highest quality service which translates to “on-time and under-budget implementations”. This dedication translates to a 100% customer reference rate and increasing repeat business. David has the natural ability to become part of the client family in a very short period of time.

In his spare time, David is an avid sailor and participated in the 2011 Marion (Massachusetts) to Bermuda Race with fellow GenesisSolutions colleague, Mr. Stephen Santoro. While things didn’t go as well as planned, it was a great experience that they will build on for 2012’s Newport (Rhode Island) to Bermuda Race.

New Employee Spotlight: Brian Taite

Senior Reliability Engineer

Brian Taite graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1992 and Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1994 and went on to complete a Masters of Environmental Engineering in 1999. Prior to joining GenesisSolutions he was engaged as a consultant for a number of major oil companies, government agencies and within private industry for environmental site assessments, risk assessments, site remediation, project management and health and safety planning.

Working on environmental clean-up projects led to experience in maintenance and management of various remediation equipment systems. Along with overall project management, financial planning and cost control, Brian was involved with all aspects of project work including preparation of technical specifications, equipment refurbishment and optimization, corrective maintenance, failure modes identification and assessment, recommendations for system improvements, and the development of preventative maintenance routines.

In 2006, Brian joined the GenesisSolutions team as a contractor in The Netherlands as part of the Shell Upstream International Europe, Technical Integrity Enhancement Program (TIEP) for the ONEgas Asset. This includes almost 60 natural gas offshore production platforms and two onshore gas plants in the Southern North Sea. The project involves identification of safety critical elements, development of performance standards and review and development of maintenance routines in Shell Oil’s CMMS system (SAP Blueprint) to ensure the performance standard assurance tasks are well defined and fully covered under the preventative maintenance plans for all safety critical equipment.

Now a GenesisSolutions employee, Brian has embraced the opportunity to become involved with the North Sea Oil and Gas industry and to help Shell maintain its high safety standards through top tier maintenance programs and compliance activities. He has great personal and professional satisfaction while applying his background in maintenance and reliability engineering to enhance the technical integrity of ONEgas assets, protect the environment and ultimately ensure the safety of the people who work at these facilities.

GenesisSolutions - Tivoli Support Provider & Reseller

IBM Maximo Asset Management

GenesisSolutions has executed an IBM Tivoli Support Provider & Reseller Contract for the IBM Maximo Asset Management software application. With this new contract, GenesisSolutions is now an Authorized IBM Business Partner and officially licensed to resell, implement and provide Level One Support to IBM Tivoli’s Maximo Customers.

Although GenesisSolutions has been a business partner of IBM as a Systems Integrator for the past 12 years, this new contract solidifies a long standing business relationship and opens up a number of value-driven opportunities for our customer base.

Joe Pitman, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at GenesisSolutions commented: “This is a long time coming. We have been working closely with the IBM Maximo Asset Management team for years, and now we have a platform to build an even more profitable relationship and solutions to our mutual customer base. This new agreement makes sense for all parties, and we’re excited to align our IBM Maximo business practice to increase our customers overall satisfaction with their best-of-breed and industry defining application.”

GenesisSolutions will be a Gold Sponsor at the upcoming IBM Pulse 2012 conference to be held March 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, we will be promoting our new relationship at both industry and regional Maximo User Group conferences throughout North America & Europe over the next several months.

Project Summary: CMMS Migration in a Biotechnology Environment
Service Announcement: Reliability Engineering Workshop
GenesisSolutions: Upcoming Events

Employee Spotlight: Tim Gilmer

Manager, Professional Services

Tim Gilmer began his career in 1987 as a Junior Chemist at Milliken Chemical after graduating from Wofford College with a degree in Biology. While at Milliken, Tim was responsible for R&D on several product lines which afforded him the opportunity to work with Engineering and Production personnel at two production facilities as well as both quality labs. During his time at Milliken, Tim co-authored two patents and piloted the company’s first ultra-filtration unit that recovered millions of dollars of product in the first year.

In 1990, Tim took a position as Technical Director with a company based in the UK that was starting a manufacturing facility in the US. Tim was the third employee hired and participated with building the facility, the installation and commissioning of equipment, developing base formulations for products, and developing all procurement relationships with raw material vendors. Tim was responsible for all technical aspects of the company, which also included Engineering and Maintenance. The company grew quickly and was financially self-sufficient inside of 36 months. The company developed a niche market for custom power coatings, and is currently one of the very few in the world that can deliver custom color and texture powder within 24 hours.

Tim took a position with Datastream Systems in the fall of 1994, where he was a consultant with the responsibility of helping customers install and setup Datastream’s CMMS products. Tim also trained the end-users on the application onsite as well as in structured classed offered by Datastream. Tim worked at Datastream until April 2003, and during this time he worked in Product Development, Direct Sales, Internal Training, and Corporate Training.

In 2003, Tim joined GenesisSolutions as a Principal Consultant, primarily focused on Datastream projects. Since that time, Tim has worked on many Datastream (now Infor EAM) and IBM Maximo Asset Management projects in various capacities. Tim is now a Manager of Professional Services and is responsible for the overall success and management of customer engagements. He has overseen successful EAM projects in the manufacturing, pharmaceutical and automotive industries. Tim ensures his customers success through strong project management skills, EAM system expertise and by driving team collaboration.

Project Summary: CMMS Migration within a Biotechnology Environment

IBM Maximo Asset Management migration to SAP PM

One of the world’s leading biotechnology companies needed to upgrade their IBM Maximo Asset Management system. A new corporate directive was driving their maintenance system to SAP PM. The impending transition to the new system was daunting from a data perspective, and GenesisSolutions was asked to support the system upgrade and data preparation based on our experience and long held and successful history with the company.

Mid-Year 2011 Training Curriculum Announcement

Employee Spotlight: James Johnson

Principal Consultant

James Johnson began his career in the manufacturing industry as a Programmer / Analyst. Upon graduation from Purdue University in 1988 with a degree in Computer Technology, he began working as a Programmer / Analyst in a small spring manufacturing company. James was hired by Myers Spring Company to design and develop a software application to control a spring processing machine the company was building. The application allowed a machine operator to program the machine to feed, bend and cut wire, and ensure the springs were within their customers design tolerances.

In 1997 he took an opportunity to join a Maximo Implementation project at a Major Pharmaceutical. His main project responsibility was the migration of data from five legacy systems into Maximo 3 and 4 for an Enterprise Implementation spanning eleven sites and multiple manufacturing plants across the United States, Europe and Puerto Rico. Additional responsibilities included leading inventory configuration and integration efforts.

After a five year stint of designing, building, deploying and supporting the Data Warehouses at a Consumer Electronics manufacturer, he continued in the maintenance software industry when he joined GenesisSolutions in 2006, where he is currently a Principal Consultant. James has been involved in two multi-year Maximo Upgrade Implementations including international roll outs and complex data migrations. Currently he is assisting one of the world’s leading agricultural processors with a global upgrade from Maximo 5 to 7. He has contributed in many areas including business process development, test script development, screen design, custom applications, and data migration.

When not at a customer site, James can be found golfing and riding around the countryside in his black and gold convertible Mustang, or hanging at one of the many local race tracks in Indianapolis, Indiana with friends and family.
