New Employee Spotlight: Robert Cherry
Senior Consultant, EAM Services
Robert Cherry began his career in 1979 as an Accounting Supervisor for a 50 year old lumber mill in Southeast Texas after graduation from Lamar University. Robert was involved in developing an improved inventory reconciliation process that saved many hours during each month-end close. In 1986, Robert moved to a Cost Accounting position for a major industrial plant maintenance and construction company, and then took a position as General Manager for a local valve repair company. He implemented a complete new accounting system including personnel training to support the new system.
In 1996, Robert took advantage of an opportunity to change the direction of his career. He took a position with a local staffing company to support the development of a group to pursue CMMS opportunities in the Southeast Texas region. Robert was part of a team that successfully implemented a complex CMMS (Maximo) project that lasted one-and-a-half years for a substantial oil & gas offshore drilling company.
In 2002, Robert joined Calpine Corporation as Regional CMMS Support Coordinator. Robert delivered field support of their CMMS (Maximo) for eight power plants in the Gulf Coast area. He also conducted an organization-wide technology needs assessment and administered project lifecycle from initial systems planning and technology acquisition through installation, training, and operations. In 2006, Robert was promoted to Manager of the Regional CMMS Support group that he had been a contributing member. He created a stand-alone reporting system that fulfilled a missing requirement in the current CMMS system to effectively report compliance of the planning and scheduling processes. He also facilitated Year-End Physical Inventory reporting requirements for the accounting group, including Cycle Counting and inventory reconciliations.
Robert joined GenesisSolutions in July 2010 as a Senior Consultant and has already had the opportunity to participate in two projects. The first was with the Texas Municipal Power Agency facility assisting with a system assessment, and the second in working on updating Requirements documentation for Spectra Energy in Houston. Robert is a firm believer that no one person can know everything and it is only a team effort that can make for a successful project conclusion for both the team and the client.
Puerto Rico College of Engineering Annual Convention
San Juan, Puerto Rico - August 2010
GenesisSolutions employees Mike Greenholtz, Joe Pitman and Anthony DeSimone led a full day workshop hosted by the Mundy Companies at the Annual Convention of the College of Engineering in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The objective of this workshop was to educate customer participants on Enterprise Asset Management and core implementation components. Mike, Joe and Anthony conducted the workshop with representatives from over 35 companies and businesses across Puerto Rico. Attendees included Engineers, Engineering Managers, Maintenance Managers, Inventory / Procurement Managers, Maintenance Planners, Operations Management, IT management and independent consultants. The focus was on the design and implementation of key building blocks and components necessary to enable any customer organization to be successful with Reliability. The topics included Risk Management, Planning & Scheduling, MRO Inventory and Purchasing strategies, and other Return-on-Investment generating programs.
The workshop was interactive and generated numerous questions from the participants during the Q&A session. Many of the companies Maintenance Managers were very interested in how to progress from their current status to the next progression level as depicted on the Genesis Maintenance Maturity Continuum. The value of self assessments and developing the foundation for maintenance Master Planning was a major topic of interest.
This was the first venue where GenesisSolutions and the Mundy Companies have jointly hosted and participated in an educational forum. We plan on continuing this collaboration to promote learning in the Maintenance Community and will continue to create such venues at ISPE, SMRP and other professional associations that place a high value on Reliability topics.
